How Joy Worldwide Is Expanding Global Education Access for African American Students

Bridging the Gap

International education doesn’t just change where you are — it changes who you believe you can become. It opens minds, fosters cross-cultural understanding, and empowers students to reimagine their potential on a global scale.

However, there is a large gap between races traveling abroad and having international experiences as in 2023, only 5.3% of U.S. students studying abroad were African American.

We’re on a mission to close that gap by making international education accessible and empowering African American students.

Our Programs

Joy Worldwide Inc. Study Abroad Scholarship Program

Through the Joy Worldwide Inc. Study Abroad Scholarship Program, we provide students with $500–$750 scholarships to help offset travel or program expenses, along with six months of access to a language learning platform.

Joy Worldwide Inc. Flight Voucher Program

Our flight voucher program enables our scholarship recipients to experience the world and have transformative global experiences. For many of our students, flights are the largest out-of-pocket expense and biggest barrier to studying abroad. This kind of access can be life-changing.

We also provide each student with monthly reflection prompts, educational materials, and mentorship aligned with our program’s core pillars — helping them not only travel, but truly grow through the experience. It’s a structure designed to support emotional processing, cultural engagement, and long-term personal development.

It’s important to encourage them to thrive abroad and return home ready to lead with new skills, broader perspectives, and global ambition.
